🐾 How much energy actually comes from treats?

In an earlier FeedWise nutrition insight, we discussed how the recommended feeding amount on the packaging assumes that the food is the only source of energy.

💡 In practice, that is of course rarely the case.

Training treats, table scraps, chew products, dental sticks and other rewards all provide energy, but are easily forgotten or underestimated during the dietary history.

That is why the question “Does your dog get treats?” is usually not enough.

A good dietary history goes a step further:
🐶 What does your dog get?
⚖️ How much does he get?
📅 How often?
👨‍👩‍👧 And, not least: who gives the treats?

This infographic helps you have that conversation in a practical and structured way during the nutrition consultation.

📚 International guidelines recommend that treats should provide no more than approximately 10% of a dog’s daily energy intake. By including treats in your dietary history, you gain a more complete picture of the total energy intake.

💬 How do you map out treats during a nutrition consultation?
